I just finished listening to the The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane audiobook. This book was seriously amazing. It’s a must-read if you like tea. I enjoyed listening to this book on long drives, on hikes, or at the gym. It’s a moving story that will give you a new found love and appreciation for tea. It’s also available on kindle and paperback.
The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane tells the story of Li-yan, a young girl growing up in an Akha tea farming family in a remote Yunnan village. Li-yan and her family align their lives around the seasons and the farming of tea, specifically pu-erh, a variety of aged tea from ancient trees found in the mountains of Yunnan, a province in China. It’s a story about tea farming, hardships, and family. With vivid descriptions of tea and life in rural China, the grueling days of picking tea leaves, selling it, drinking it.
Pu-erh is a naturally long-aged, ancient healing tea packed with antioxidants. It has a deep bold body that is smooth and earthy. This rich, energizing tea is high in caffeine and is a healthier alternative to coffee. It is said to have medicinal qualities to boost the immune system. Pu’er reportedly can help with diabetes, lower blood pressure, prolong longevity, and aid in weight loss.
If you are a tea drinker, you have to check this book out, and make sure you buy some Pu-erh to drink while you read it. It will make the experience much more enjoyable.
